Tatiana “Tia” Rita Turner was charged with attempted murder after plowing her vehicle into a group of pro-Trump supporters.
The incident occurred in the city of Yorba Linda California. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, supporters for both Black Lives Matter and the Caravan 4 Justice groups were demonstrating when things got out of hand.
When police ordered the groups to disperse, Turner, an organizer for Caravan 4 Justice, then started driving directly at the BLM group, injuring several people.
The injuries were non-life-threatening, but one woman who was struck suffered two broken legs, while another man needed to be hospitalized.
What Is Caravan For Justice?
Caravan 4 Justice says they are “a car-based protest in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protests across the world. This is an opportunity for those who are immuno-compromised or have young children or have mobility issues to join in demanding the end to systemic racism in all its forms, ” according to their Facebook page.
“Caravan for Justice is dedicated to the next level of progression in our fight for equality and justice. We want to educate and rejuvenate the community so real change can come.”
Turner was arrested on the scene and booked to the county jail, She also faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Caravan 4 Justice posted this statement on their Facebook:
“Caravan 4 Justice a grassroots organization, participated in the March for Equality event on Saturday, September 26 in Yorba Linda.”
“With regard to the event, our heartfelt sympathies are with those who were injured at the rally. The details of this event are currently being investigated and UOC will issue another public statement once we have additional information.”
What Does Turner Have To Say About The Situation?
The Seattle Times reports that Turner’s attorney Ludlow Creary II said, “She wasn’t trying to hit anybody,” ”She wasn’t trying to hurt anybody.”
Creary goes on to say, “Tatiana Turner was in fear for her life and never intended to harm anyone when she drove through a crowd that had surrounded her car Saturday in Yorba Linda, seriously injuring two counterprotesters,”
But the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had this to say: “It did not appear from the video we’ve been able to see that there was a direct threat,” spokeswoman Carrie Braun said.
Turner is being held on $1 million bail on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. She faces her first court appearance Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court.
