Trump Slams Pelosi as Hypocrite after Speaker Filmed in Hair Salon

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had her hair done in a beauty parlor that is closed due to coronavirus restrictions Fox News reported.  The visit came on Monday and was captured on the salon’s security cameras.

Pelosi appeared on the security footage with wet hair and without a mask on.  San Francisco hair salons have been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.  They are scheduled to reopen for outdoor hairstyling only this week.

The salon in question, ESalonSF, is owned by Erica Kious.  Kious described how the Pelosi visit came about.  She has independent stylists who rent space in her salon.  “One of the stylists who rents a chair from me contacted me Sunday night,” Kious said.  The salon owner shared a text exchange she had with the stylist.  The stylist first texted, “’I’ll be there at 2:45 tomorrow. Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair.”  Kious texted, “Pelosi?” in response.

Kious was incredulous, but noted that she couldn’t do anything because the independent stylists are currently not paying her for their space right now.  “I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?” she said.

“We have been shut down for so long,” continued Kious.  “Not just me, but most of the small businesses and I just can’t – it’s a feeling – a feeling of being deflated, helpless and honestly beaten down. I have been fighting for six months for a business that took me 12 years to build to reopen. I am a single mom, I have two small children, and I have no income. The fact that they did this, and she came in, it’s like a slap in the face.”

The U.S. Sun reported that the incident is particularly hypocritical because Pelosi has spent so much time criticizing President Trump for not wearing a mask in public.  In May Pelosi responded to a picture of the President without a mask.  “It’s a vanity thing, I guess, with him,” the speaker said.  Then, in July, Pelosi ordered all House members to wear a mask when voting on the floor and that failure to do so would be considered a “serious breach of decorum.” She explained, “It’s a sign of respect for the health, safety and well-being of others present in the chamber and in surrounding areas.”

The World News reported that Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi, insisted that the Speaker “complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment.” The Speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements,” Hammill said. “This business offered for the Speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business.”

Republicans were quick to point out Pelosi’s blatant hypocrisy.  White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted, “Do as I say, not as I do.”  The Senate Republicans said, “Speaker Pelosi has pushed policies that would keep our economy closed and our small businesses shut down. But for herself? A salon visit whenever she pleases.”

President Trump joined the chorus of criticism with a tweet Wednesday saying, “”Crazy Nancy Pelosi is being decimated for having a beauty parlor opened, when all others are closed, and for not wearing a Mask–despite constantly lecturing everyone else. We will almost certainly take back the House, and send Nancy packing!”

Pelosi is not the first high-profile Democratic politician to be caught on camera this week in an embarrassing position.  Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was photographed in Maryland while eating indoors at a restaurant.  Indoor dining in Philadelphia is currently prohibited due to coronavirus restrictions.
