Joe Biden on Wednesday denounced the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha Wisconsin and urged protesters not to respond by engaging in violence, according to NBC News.
NBC News quotes Biden as saying in a video posted Wednesday, “What I saw on that video makes me sick. Once again a Black man, Jacob Blake, has been shot by the police in broad daylight with the whole world watching,”
Biden added that he and Kamala Harris had spoken to Blake’s family and assured them that “justice must and will be done.”
What Happened To Jacob Blake?
The man Biden was talking about, Jacob Blake, was shot several times by police in Kenosha Wisconsin on Sunday.
Although there is a partial video of the event trending all over the internet, there doesn’t seem to be any actual full account of the whole story just yet.
Police could be heard in the video saying “drop the knife”. The only video evidence so far shows Blake being closely followed by three police officers with their weapons drawn.
In the video, Blake appears to be getting into his vehicle just before he was shot multiple times.
US President Trump also reached out to the Blake family, which were unable to take the call at the time. Blake’s mother made an apology to the President about missing the call.
CNN is showing a second video of the event from another angle that recently surfaced.
Wisconsin’s Attorney General Josh Kaul says Blake was “near a knife” when the shooting took place, but he would not say whether Blake was carrying the knife when he was shot, according to NBC News.
Forbes reports that investigators said Blake admitted to having a knife on the floorboard of his vehicle, but since the police don’t have body cams, it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
Why Is Blake’s Prior Criminal Record Being Brought up?
In a bizarre twist of events, Donald Trump Jr retweeted a post which detailed the alleged criminal record of Jacob Blake within hours of Blake’s shooting:
No one quite knows the relevance of the tweet or why it has anything to do with Blake getting shot multiple times.
The other part of the incident involves the fact that Blake’s three sons were inside the vehicle when the police started shooting, according to the New York Post. The children are between the ages of 3 and 8.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice released this statement via Twitter:
According to many reports, Blake is now paralyzed, family attorney Benjamin Crump said Tuesday. Blake is currently undergoing surgery and is “struggling to sustain his life,” Crump added.
CBS News reports that as of Tuesday, ‘Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Wisconsin and authorized the presence of up to 250 members of the state’s National Guard. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department instituted an 8 p.m. curfew for the third night in a row.’
