Reality star Tamar Braxton was discovered unconscious in her Los Angeles Ritz Carlton hotel room by EMTs Thursday evening, reported TMZ. Braxton, 43, is the sister of popular singer Toni Braxton.
Tamar’s boyfriend, David Adefeso, 49, informed police that she may have taken an overdose of prescription pills and alcohol. She was taken to a local hospital, where she has been identified as being in stable condition. She is under constant observation due to the possibility of the incident being a suicide attempt. The Braxton family released a statement on the situation promising additional information to come soon.
Adefeso claimed that Braxton had threatened suicide earlier in the day, but no note was found at the scene. It was Adefeso who called 911 when he found Braxton unresponsive according to DailyMail.com.
Tamar Braxton has released five R&B albums in her career, the most recent one in 2017. She shares the screen with her sister on the reality show Braxton Family Values. She was previously a cohost on the daytime talk show The Real until 2016 when she was fired from her position.
Tamar Braxton’s career had been on an upswing recently. She has a regular YouTube show, called Coupled & Quarantined, that she cohosts with Adefeso. She is also the star of a new show, To Catch a Beautician, that debuted on May 25 on the VH1 cable channel.
Adefeso and Braxton have a show debuting soon on WE tv called Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life. Braxton won last year’s U.S. version of Celebrity Big Brother.
The newest episode of Coupled & Quarantined did not air on Thursday night as normal. A message mentioning the postponement said, ‘Hello Ya’ll Unfortunately, Your girl Tamar is under the weather today and not feeling well so we need to postpone today’s show (Don’t worry it’s not Covid). ‘We’re sad because we had a great show lined up for you today, but next week’s show is going to be even bigger and better. ‘So sorry for the inconvenience, we know many of you look forward to the show every week. we’ll make it up to you next week.’
The New York Post reported Actress Viola Davis tweeted support of Braxton and mental health awareness in general. “Praying for Tamar Braxton. Mental Health has got to be a part of our ‘wokeness,’ ” Davis’ message read. “There is strength in vulnerability. You matter Miss Tamar Braxton. Praying for you, your beautiful son and family.”
