Quicker than a firecracker. That about sums up presidential bid for Kanye West
Kanye West abruptly ended his short-lived bid for the 2020 presidency according to several news reports, including Forbes.
Although it sparked quite a bit of news coverage, the July 4th announcement by Kanye West running for President of the United States was met with quite a bit of shock, as well as opinion, and then mostly ignored.
West was full of strange promises, such as saying he wanted to run the country like the fictional nation of Wakanda from the Black Panther movies.
West, who is quoted as saying he’s “never voted in his life”, sparked more questions than answers, most notably about his mental state during an interview with Forbes.
Either way, West was in for an uphill battle that would’ve involved getting a massive amount of votes just to get him on the ballot. Steve Kramer, who runs a firm that helps people get on ballots, was quoted as saying about West’s bid, “He’s Out”.
According to the Intelligencer, Kramer also added “I have nothing good or bad to say about Kanye. Everyone has their personal decision about why they make decisions. Running for president has to be one of the hardest things for someone to actually contemplate at that level.” He noted the obstacles that a first-time candidate faces, and “any candidate running for president for the first time goes through these hiccups.”
It certainly didn’t help matters that members of his family had expressed concern about him having a bi-polar episode, which was reported from several new sources and magazines. West himself has brought up his struggles before.
In an interview with David Letterman, West says, “I wouldn’t be able to explain that as much just because, you know, I’m not a doctor.” “I can just tell you what I’m feeling at the time, and I feel a heightened connection with the universe when I’m ramping up. It is a health issue. This — it’s like a sprained brain, like having a sprained ankle. And if someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not going to push on him more. With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse.”
It’s been said that his wife has been “supportive” of West’s ambitions, although what that really means is known only to her. The St. Louis post-dispatch mentions that “Kanye has been planning this for years and Kim has known about his aspirations and has been supportive. Kanye is passionate about arts and education and wants to support in any way he can.”
Who is Kanye West?
West is a rapper and clothing designer, aged 43, and famously married to reality star Kim Kardashian. According to Forbes, West is now a billionaire, worth a reported $1.3 billion dollars.
