The Washington Redskins apparently need all the help that they can get in order to find a more publicly acceptable nickname for the franchise.
“If we get it done in time for the season, it would be awesome,” Rivera said to The Washington Post.
He continued, “We came up with a couple of names – two of them I really like.”
Fans and players alike of course are chiming in as well, with everyone having a unique perspective on what the new name should be in light of the fact that a change is inevitable.
Nike, FedEx, and various other big name sponsors and supporters of the Redskins all jumped on board with defunding the franchise in a domino like fashion last week as it became increasingly clear that this would be a topic of controversy if the name were to continue being used.
It’s been discussed for years now, but it appears that the team will finally be making the shift to a new name, which they hope to accomplish before the season begins.
