Saints, Pelicans Declare Juneteenth Paid Holiday For Employees

The New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans have officially declared Juneteenth a paid holiday for all employees.

The teams made the collective announcement Wednesday morning, as a sweeping of recognition for the Juneteenth anniversary continues to sweep the country.

Juneteenth will fall on this Friday, and serves as the marker for the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th 1865, General Gordon Granger declared the Civil War over and all enslaved African Americans to be free, this coming 2 years after Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation.
