Over 40,000 pounds of ground beef recalled due to E. coli concerns

Over 40,000 pounds of ground beef have been recalled due to E.coli concerns. The story was reported by CBS Local Sacramento on June 14 at 5:32pm. A New Jersey based company recalled 43,000 approximate pounds of raw ground beef products for concerns of E.coli. Particularly, the raw ground beef products may have been contaminated with E.coli O157:H7. CBS Local Sacramento cites the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service as their source. The U.S. Department of Agriculture released its statement regarding beef recall on Saturday. This comes hot on the heels of COVID-19 supply chain stressors to the American beef industry.

The beef was processed by Lakeside Refrigerated Services out of Swedesboro, New Jersey. The products were shipped to grocery locations nationwide. This was reported by CBS Sacramento which cited FSIS as its source. The statement from FSIS was filed by Congressional and Public Affairs’ personnel Emmanuel Olufotebi. It was filed on June 13. Mr. Olufotebi put the more precise estimate of beef recall poundage at 42,922 pounds. 


The statement filed by FSIS reports that the beef products were produced on June 1. FSIS statement released a detailed list of package labeling to avoid purchasing until a full recall process notice has been issued. 

“The raw ground beef items were produced on June 1, 2020. The following products are subject to recall:

1-lb. vacuum packages containing “MARKETSIDE BUTCHER ORGANIC GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF” and a use or freeze by date of 07/01/20 and lot code P-53298-82.

  • 1-lb. vacuum packages containing four ¼ lb. pieces of “MARKETSIDE BUTCHER ORGANIC GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES” and a use or freeze by date of June 27, 2020 and lot code P-53934-28.
  • 3-lb. vacuum packages containing three 1 lb. pieces of “MARKETSIDE BUTCHER ORGANIC GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF 93% LEAN / 7% FAT” and a use or freeze by date of 07/01/20 and lot code P53929-70.
  • 1-lb. tray packages containing four ¼ lb. pieces of “THOMAS FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES 85% LEAN / 15% FAT” and a use or freeze by date of 06/25/20 and lot code P53944-10.
  • 4-lb. tray packages containing 10 ¼ lb. pieces of “THOMAS FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES 80% LEAN / 20% FAT” and a use or freeze by date of 06/25/20 and lot code P53937-45.
  • 1-lb. vacuum packages containing four ¼ lb. pieces of “THOMAS FARMS GRASS-FED GROUND BEEF PATTIES 85% LEAN / 15% FAT” and a use or freeze by date of 06/27/20 and lot code P53935-25.
  • 1-lb. vacuum packages containing “VALUE PACK FRESH GROUND BEEF 76% LEAN / 24% FAT” and a use or freeze by date of 07/01/20 and lot code P53930-18

Walmart, CVS, Walgreens to stop locking up black beauty products

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 46841” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.” Read the statement from the FSIS news release that was published June 13 as a  Class I Recall Notice.
