Jamies Winston is undergoing a change of pace in his NFL career, but the confidence within him regarding his ability remains.
Winston recently signed a 1 year $1.1 million dollar deal with the New Orleans Saints to back up their long-tenured starter and future Hall of Famer’ Drew Brees. This comes after having spent his first years with the Buccaneers after being the first overall pick.
Winston flashed his talent that we all knew he had during his time in Tampa, but he also showed that he’s a very volatile play at the QB position because of his risk-taking and turnover tendencies.
“I know what I’m worth,” Winston recently said in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Tyler Dunne. “And I know day in and day out, without publicly coming in and saying it, that historically I’m one of the best quarterbacks to play the game.”
Winston thinks highly of his abilities and says he’s one of the best to ever play the game, from a talent perspective i presume, and it’s hard to argue with him from a talent perspective. A lot of talented players and quarterbacks have entered the league, and very few have become elite. it’s a combination of things that brings your career to fruition, and Winston is still trying to achieve that. Although, i admire the internal confidence.
“Sometimes, your biggest strength can be your biggest weakness,” Winston said. “I’m an attacker. I’m trying to attack consistently. I’m trying to attack every time I play. I want you to feel my presence every time I’m in the game. But at the same time, I’m the quarterback. I have the ball. I’m the one who says this goes here and that goes there. I am the answer.”
Jamies seems to have recently gotten a grip on his mental aspect and approach to the game, as well as the physical one, having recently dropped 20 pounds this offseason from his already prototypical QB stature.
Winston shouldn’t expect to be shouldering a big load on or off the field for this upcoming season, assuming everything goes according to plan, but if opportunity knocks, he has a real chance to revitalize his image in a very short time frame.
