Music icon Linda Ronstadt has been doing some research on the Third Reich as she publically compared America under Trump to pre-Nazi Germany under Hitler. According to Ronstadt, there are “great parallels” between the two.
Ronstadt announced her theories during an interview on CNN with Anderson Cooper. CNN recently released a documentary about the award-winning singer’s life and career back on January 1. However, that seemed to be far from her mind once she got on the topic of Donald Trump and America.
The winner of multiple Grammy Awards and Academy of Country Music Awards, Ronstadt stated during the interview she knew President Trump would win the 2016 election the moment he announced he was running. “I was sure that Trump was going to get elected the day he announced and I said that it’s going to be like Hitler and the Mexicans are the new Jews, and sure enough that’s what he delivered,” Ronstadt said.
“The intelligentsia of Berlin and the literati and all the artists were just busy doing their thing. Hitler rose to power. There were a lot of chances to stop him, and they didn’t speak out,” she explained to Cooper. “The industrial complex thought they could control him once they got him in office, and, of course, he was not controllable.”
Ronstadt continued, “By the time he got established, he put his own people in place and stacked the courts and did what he had to do to consolidate his power,” she said. “And we got Hitler, and he destroyed Germany. He destroyed centuries of intellectual history forward and backward.”
Anderson Cooper responded to Ronstadt’s theory by saying he believes a lot of people would be surprised to hear her comparing Trump’s America to Hitler’s Germany. Ronstadt simply continued in saying, “If you look at history, you won’t be surprised, it’s exactly the same. You find a common enemy for everybody to hate” Ronstadt said.
It’s quite the accusation to compare the leader of the free world to one of history’s most heinous villains of all time. There’s no denying that she was able to make some points with parallels. However, that is a huge leap from U.S. President to the leader of the Nazi Party.
Audiences around the nation have had mixed opinions about the famous singer’s theory. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, this is simply another person’s opinion. Whether you agree or disagree, we all have to decide for ourselves.
