Yesterday, Democratic billionaire and 2020 presidential candidate Tom Steyer announced on twitter that Kat Taylor, his wife, would be “on the ground” in South Carolina over the weekend into Monday.
The couple last made a visit to the Palmetto state on December 8th, 2019, campaigning on Steyer’s “5 Rights Tour” which Steyer uses as a platform to discuss ‘nonpartisan’ issues such as voting rights protections, the environment, education, living wages, and health care.
Both Kat Taylor and Tom Steyer attended Stanford Graduate School of Business, both earning MBA degrees. Taylor, however, earned a joint JD/MBA degree from Stanford. Taylor has dedicated much of her time to philanthropic and public benefit ventures in San Francisco. She is the founding director of TomKat Ranch Educational Foundation, a social enterprise that “inspires a sustainable food system through ranching, training, tours, research and school food and garden programs,” according to their website. She also serves as Co-Founder and CEO of Benefit State Bank, whose mission is to bring low-income communities “beneficial banking”. Benefit State Bank mandates that any distributed profit be invested in the low income communities it serves.
It has not been made clear exactly what Kat Taylor will be doing in South Carolina, but it has been reported that Taylor will visit voters in Columbia, Greenville and Greenwood. There are a number of events the Steyer campaign is hosting while Taylor will be in South Carolina.
