Real Madrid is back and started their second La Liga campaign with a 3 – 0 win over Getafe on Saturday.  By taking a glance at the final score one could think that Madrid dominated Getafe throughout the whole match however it was not a great start for ‘Los Blancos;’ but their tactics, mentality and experience were more efficiently than their opponents to emerge with the three points.

Thibaut Coutois made a series of amazing saves in the first forty-five minutes of the game and a few more during the second half.  The goalkeeper recorded his ninth clean sheet in his last 12 games for Real Madrid.

The right back of ‘Los Blancos’ Dani Carbajal praised his team-mate Thibaut Courtois for keeping Real Madrid in their game:

“He kept us in the match with his two or three great saves,” he said.  “Nobody doubted his potential, not even himself. He is a great goalkeeper and I’m sure he will win us more points.”

Carvajal also mentioned how significant was this victory for the club:

“It was an important win.  We had been playing well recently but had only taken three points out of nine and you need to win three points each time to fight for the title.  It was a great effort from the team and we deserved to win.”

Even Getafe coach Jose Bordalas also thought Courtois was the difference between both teams:

“I think Courtois has been the best of the opposing team.  However the result seems excessive to me and i think we deserved more,” he said.

Madrid came out without Sergio Ramos in the roster due to suspension. The captain’s absence was one of four changes to the side from their draw against Atletico Bilbao before Christmas.  In this case the French world champion Raphael Varane replaced Ramos in the middle of the defense alongside Militao. Midfielder Casemiro was recalled in the middle of the pitch while Bale and Isco positioned ahead of Rodrygo.  Youngster Vinicious came out to play in the final third.

The game had an energetic start but an own goal from Getafe’s keeper David Soria handed the visitors the lead.  Defender Raphael Varane scored in the second half with a powerful header into the net from six yards. Finally Luka Modric wrapped it up with the third goal during stoppage time.

Getafe had their chances but could not scored due to their inefficiency in front of the goal and several times their opportunities were denied by Courtois in one of his best performances so far with ‘Los Blancos.”  On the other hand it was a frustrating afternoon for the home team.

Courtois was the subject of extreme criticism for his performances earlier in his Real Madrid career, but has turned things around on the 2020 season.  There is no doubt that Real Madrid is looking to obtain the title in the Champions League, but in order to do so Courtois must stay at this level of efficiency.
