Pelicans’ Zion Williamson Is Learning to Walk and Run Differently During Injury Rehab

Zion Williamson is reported to be learning to walk and run differently during his injury rehab. Williamson was originally ruled out for 6-8 weeks before the NBA season started. Unfortunately, fans learned that Zion would be out for longer. As of now, we don’t know what the timetable for Williamson is. However, we do know that Zion is now learning how to walk and run in a different way. The saga of the Zion Williamson injury seems to be evolving as the days go by.

Philadelphia upsets Milwaukee in Christmas blockbuster

The new way is apparently a “the kinetic chain of his body.” according to the new york post. The Pelicans are apparently taking serious precautions with their prize No.1 overall pick. After suffering a torn meniscus, Zion is progressing according to Pelican’s head coach Alvin Gentry. As of right now, Williamson is participating in individual workouts. He hasn’t participated in 5 on 5 or 3 on 3 drills as of yet. This is all a part of the process for the potential Pelicans star. The Pelicans are seeking to prevent further injury for Zion, thus teaching him how to run and walk differently. This may have a lot to do with his body type. Zion is a 6’6-6’7 forward who is anywhere between 270 and 280 pounds. That body type is unheard of in the NBA.

This body type may not be sustainable in the NBA, especially with the speed of the game and the number of games. Therefore, it is understandable as to why the Pelicans are taking his rehab process slowly. Zion has already had a history of injury in his knees. So it is imperative to be cautious with rehabbing this young man. The Pelicans have a new medical staff onboard working on this rehab. Led by Aaron Nelson, renowned for his work with the Phoenix Suns according to CBSSports. They are apparently dedicated to a long-term physical plan for the young star. Williamson approves this process, saying he “trusts the organization’.

Pelicans rebuilding

the Pelicans are in a long rebuilding process after trading away their former No.1 overall pick in Anthony Davis the last offseason. At this time they have a 9-23 record and have no playoff hopes for this season. The team had high hopes for sneaking into the playoffs, but Zion’s injury set that goal back. At this moment, their goal is player development and hopes for the future. That goal is evident, in the emergence of Brandon Ingram who is currently averaging career highs in points, rebounds, field goal percentage and three-point percentage. It is also evident in their rehab process for Zion. It is a long process. However, Zion, the Pelicans, and the fans all wish to see Zion play a long, healthy career. The best way to do so is through a long, precautious rehab process changing his walk and run.

Zion may be suiting up in January 2020. The NBA hopeful are crossing their fingers, hoping to see this goliath rise into the skies with electrifying dunks this season. Zion’s leaping ability is dazzling, and his play infectious. He will definitely bring excitement to the city of New Orleans for years to come.
