The Tigers come in as the number 3 seed in the College playoffs. they face off against the Ohio State Buckeyes Thursday. Seeking to defend their national title The Tigers enter the playoffs hungry as ever. Led by national champion Trevor Lawrence, The tigers are eager to win their second straight and third overall. under the reign of head coach Dabo Swinney, The Tigers hold a massive amount of dominance over college football. The completion of this accomplishment is by a number of means. It all starts with their impressive core.
The amazing play of the Tigers
Impressive their core is with the Tigers, Their passing and running game is impeccable. Starting with the dynamic duo of wide receivers Tee Higgins and Justin Ross. This is in combination with the 1500 yards ran by running back Travis Etienne according to CBSSports. these marvelous athletes prove too much for so many on any given night. This is not to overshadow the play of Trevor Lawrence, their second-year quarterback.
Lawrence this season threw for 3172 yards and 34 touchdowns. The fantastic quarterback is only showing us glimpses of his stardom. This type of play led the team to this impressive 13-0 season. Most of the time this would grant a team a number one seed. However, this season there are other teams that accomplished the same record. Ohio State being one of them.
when asked about the record, head coach Swinney said this,
“(The rankings) really doesn’t matter. We’ll play somewhere and play somebody and be thankful for the opportunity. We’re 13-0 and these guys continue to get ready week in and week out. We just want to have an opportunity to compete for the whole thing. I think we’ve done enough to get somewhere in that top four, wherever they put us we just want a chance to play and see if we can get to the top of the mountain.” –SI
Tiger’s great defense
With a team of championship pedigree as the Tigers, seeding doesn’t matter. What does matter is how well the offense and defense works. We know what their offense can do, Their defense just as impactful.
This Tigers defense is giving up just 3.96 yards per play. This is impressive especially since their missing key defensive linemen from last year. Their only 0.23 points down from last season according to CBSSports. This could be accredited to the defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Venables is a mastermind on the defensive end applying a multi-faceted scheme. This involves confusing offensive coordinators by switching defensive linemen as well as safeties and cornerbacks. The type of defense to keep opposing teams guessing.
