For the last seven years Pearl Jam has gone without a new album. But the wait is finally over. Just a few days ago Eddie Vedder, while playing for some friends at a private party in Hawaii, leaked the surprise new album.
According to Alternative Nation, Ron Pieffer shared the news via Facebook:
“EV (Eddie Vedder) gets his new board in Hawaii tonight. Heard the new album is pretty damn good. That may have leaked tonight at a dinner in HI amongst friends A friend of a friend was there tonight. Trying to grab a few more pics from tonight.”
Some fans seemed to suspect the album release. Pearl Jam fan D-Rod responded on Facebook:
“Once the Europe tour was announced it was obvious that a new album was coming. Plus all Mike said to Rolling Stone is that they are still working on it. For all we know that could mean the artwork.”
Pearl Jam’s last album, Lightning Bolt was released back in October of 2013 and was their tenth studio album. Along with the track “Lightning Bolt,” “Sirens” and “My Father’s Son” were some popular ones from the record. In 2015 at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, Lighting Bolt won the award for Best Record Package.
According to an interview with Rolling Stone back in January, Pearl Jam originally planned to release the album in 2019, but several factors played into the delay. A large part of this was the death of Chris Cornell. Bassist Jeff Amend told the publication “It’s just been slow going….“I think when Chris [Cornell] passed, that’s really been a tough one to wrap our heads around, and then there’s just life stuff.”
Pearl Jam has ultimately persevered and fans can expect the long awaited new album in 2020.
