The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel cast has found themselves to be short one for filming moving forward. Brian Tarantina, who played Jackie on the smash hit comedy, passed away on November 3rd. He was 60-years-old. Tarantina’s cause of death has been disclosed by the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Tarantina’s cause of death was an accidental drug overdose.
Tarantina was found dead in his New York City, Hell’s Kitchen, apartment and the cause of death had not yet been determined. It has now been disclosed that this was an accidental overdose. A spokesperson at the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed it had been from the combined effects of fentanyl, heroin, diazepam and cocaine. It was also said by a spokesperson that the actor had been ill with a heart-related issue. If you’re not familiar with Tarantina from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, you may know a few other things he’s been apart of. Some of which include Gilmore Girls, Law & Order, NYPD Blue, Miami Vice, Homicide: Life on the Street, Oz and ER. Tarantina has been in so many things that we know and love, with his most recent part being the Gaslight night club emcee, Jackie, where the main character, Midge, performs on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The star of the Mrs. Maisel show, Rachel Brosnahan, posted on Instagram in tribute to his passing.
Tarantina worked closely with actress Alex Borstein, who plays Susie Myerson on the show. She also offered her condolences and expressed her appreciation for their time working together. Borstein told Variety, “For my character, Susie has two people in her life that she somewhat trusts, Midge and Jackie, and that’s a huge hole. That’s a huge loss. For me personally as an actress, Brian and I were both super, super crabby, we would complain, and I’m going to miss that.” Bornstein said she is unclear if the show will address his death, and it is felt it will not be the same without him. However, after the news of his death, the show paid tribute saying “The Gaslight won’t be the same without you.”
Tarantina will undoubtedly be missed terrible by family, friends, and fans of all the works he’s been in. His death was tragic and accidental, and his presence will always be felt throughout the Mrs. Maisel family.
