This past Sunday proved to be a bit of a hostile one over at Gillette Stadium. Kansas City Chiefs battled the New England Patriots at their home field in Foxborough, Massachusetts in which the Pats have a record for winning consecutive games at home. This particular Sunday though, the Chiefs took the victory winning 23-16. Ouch.

This was not the only harsh thing to happen that game though. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, took some heat from Patriots fans upon her arrival. She and Mahomes’ brother Jackson took their seats at the stadium and were immediately being harassed by fans. Matthews recording her experience in a series of tweets throughout the day. She wrote in her initial tweet, “as soon as we sit down, drunk dude ‘hey everyone this is patrick mahomes girl and brother, let’s give them s—t.’” She later added that the fans were yelling at her for standing up during the game, and that if she stood up again they were going to call security.

As the night progressed, the harassment from the other fans was so bad Matthews had to call security for their safety. Security noticed the problem immediately and moved them to another part of the stadium, where the fans would hopefully be a little kinder. It appeared that they ended up in a suite somewhere by the end of the night from Matthews Instagram story.

Matthews said despite it all, there was no way she was going to stay away from the game. Hometown fans weren’t only cruel to Matthews and Mahomes’ brother though, but to their own team. Patriots fans booed the Pats off the field during half time. Clearly they were upset about the slow first half and the second straight loss, especially at home. With the win, the Chiefs improved to 9-4 on the season and the Patriots fell to 10-3. Regardless of all this, there is no acceptable reason to harass other fans and make them fear for their own safety. Let’s finish out this football with respect.
