NFC East, Bottom-feeders Edition

I hope you’re ready for a meaningless Monday Night Football game, because we’ve got a great one for you this week. In a division rivalry game between the two bottom feeders, the Giants, without Daniel Jones, will take on the Eagles, without well, a lot of players.

We all knew the Giants would probably be locking down another top five pick this year, but the Eagles…we were hoping they wouldn’t anyway. Having just come off a super bowl win a couple seasons ago to now sitting at 5-7 and dealing with both coach and quarterback questions is a stark falloff. Doug Pederson took a similar roster to the super bowl, and isn’t Carson Wentz a younger Aaron Rodgers with more mobility, supposedly?

The last two seasons have undoubtedly been rough for Eagles fans in comparison to their likely premature, at least in terms of Wentz’s career path, success a couple years ago. Philadelphia has been dealt a lot of injuries this year after having added what seemed to be a very good collection of offensive players in the off season. Despite that, no one can predict injury, just no one can predict Nelson Agholor dropping passes. Well, unless you’re this man: (Philly Fire guy)

Wentz has undoubtedly somewhat underwhelmed us this year as well as with his durability throughout his career, not that he can help that, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to give up on him. Having just signed Carson to a long term franchise QB type contract, it’s obvious the team has confidence in him. And what about Doug Pederson? Pederson has only been in Philadelphia since 2016, and won a super bowl that quickly. Do we really think that’s luck? It’s not anywhere near time to blow anything up right now. The Eagles will be fine, or at least, finer than the Giants maybe.

The Giants are the team to worry about. Questionable moves by both DG and ownership have left their fans questioning the decision making of the organization extensively. Though Daniel Jones does seem to be a nice young Quarterback and that decision seems sound, why did you trade Odell Beckham? It’s head scratchers like these that make us wonder what you’re doing. (Daniel Jones quotes)

It’s not as if OBJ is an aging receiver and you’re looking to start over, and it’s not as if he’s been the Giants real problem either. Why is Saquon still playing this year? You’re riding your franchise running back through meaningless games and for what? The real test will come during draft season when we see what they do with their picks, as well as those acquired in trade, and how they utilize those to surround Daniel Jones with protection and weapons.

So now that we’ve discussed the organizations from a macro existential perspective, the game. Well, the game is rather meaningless, but i guess it’ll still be fun to watch. The Eagles have little to no chance of even getting the second wildcard spot this season, and the Giants were done a long time ago. Oh, and Eli Manning is likely starting…so prepare for a snooze fest.
