Star Wars. Is. Back! All fans both old and new have been waiting for the release of this final film to the Star Wars Saga. To give a little background for those who may be new, the most recent trilogy began with Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens in December of 2015 where our new protagonist, Rey, was introduced as well as our conflicting antagonist, Kylo Ren. These new characters were accompanied by both new and old beloved characters throughout these movies. Some favorite oldies include Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2D2, C-3PO, and of course Luke Skywalker to name a few. This initial spark to the “force,” of this new trilogy was followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII- The Last Jedi that was released in December of 2017. With it’s many ups and downs, this movie was one to leave a mark on Star Wars history and the hearts of fans. Now we’ve reached the end of the road again for this trilogy, the long awaited Star Wars: Episode IX- The Rise of Skywalker has finally made itself known to the public!
This finale is making it’s debut on December 20, 2019. A long awaited two years since the last one, it looks like it was worth the wait. From what we saw in the last movie, we know that Rey has come a long way into finding herself through the help of an at-first-reluctant Luke Skywalker. The Resistance was able to keep their spark alive through the mighty efforts of all the hero’s involved. We now see this all coming to a fierce close to the trilogy in the sneak peak we get in the trailer.
To catch a glimpse of what we’re expecting from our final episode check out the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker | Final Trailer. All of you Star Wars fans can barely keep your caps on, I know. The trailer opens with Rey running frantically away from something unknown, and cuts to a shot of Finn with a background narration saying “the force brought us together.” Of course we also get the juicy action shots of Rey vs. Kylo Ren in a dramatic light saber battle to amp it up even further. The Millennium Falcon also makes an appearance, just so we know that gal is still kickin’. We then flash to what appears to be a final goodbye from C-3PO. A chilling narration takes over from what could only be guessed to be from Emperor Palpatine stating that “your coming together is your undoing.” *Chills*. The trailer comes to an end with a dark single frame shot of Rey and her light saber with the voice of Luke stating “the force will be with you,” followed by Leia stating “always.” The tag line for this movie is “The saga will end. The story lives forever.” This is remarkably fitting because even after over 40 years of storytelling coming to an end, the story will live on forever in the hearts of fans everywhere.
Whether you’re a super Star Wars buff or not, these films have created a magical world entirely outside of our own for millions around the globe to marvel at. It is also a chance to see the last archived footage of the legendary and terribly missed Leia Organa played by the late Carrie Fisher. Pick up your early bird tickets to the show and may the Force be with you!
